If you’ve just moved into Liberties House (or you’re thinking about it), this is your go-to guide to get the most out of one of Dublin’s oldest neighbourhoods, as well as the rest of Dublin 8.
There’s something special about living in the Liberties. It’s not just the cobbled streets, the history, or the fact it was named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by Time Out magazine – it’s the feeling that you’ve landed somewhere with real character, just minutes from Dublin city centre.
If you’ve just moved into Liberties House (or you’re thinking about it), this is your go-to guide to get the most out of one of Dublin’s oldest neighbourhoods, as well as the rest of Dublin 8.
Where to Eat and Drink
The Liberties and the surrounding D8 area is packed with spots that locals genuinely love – fewer chains, less fuss, just good food matched with a great atmosphere.
Start your mornings at Two Pups Coffee, a neighbourhood favourite known for its brunch and relaxed vibe. For something unique, head out to flower and bean, known for a menu that is inspired by nature.
When it comes to dinner, you’re spoiled for choice. Spitalfields serves up incredible seasonal plates, while The Fumbally blends café culture with wholesome, hearty meals.
No Liberties guide would be complete without mentioning a pint at The Brazen Head – officially Ireland’s oldest pub, with the building built in 1754. For live music, head to Thomas House on Thomas St.
Coffee, Walks and Weekend Wandering
Slow mornings are easy here.
Make a coffee in the kitchen downstairs and take a stroll to St.Patrick’s Cathedral or wander the grounds, or take in the atmosphere of Weaver Park, both of which are just minutes away and the perfect place for a relaxed stroll.
For something iconic, the Guinness Storehouse isn’t just for tourists; the rooftop views are genuinely worth it.
Fitness, Clubs and Feel-Good Spots
Living in Liberties House makes it easy to stay active without going far with a gym, pickleball court, yoga room and weekly events all inside the building.
If you’re looking for a sport to join, then there are plenty of teams and clubs nearby across soccer, basketball, and more. There are also green spaces for a run or a reset.
Whether it’s a morning jog or an evening 5-a-side, everything you need is within walking distance of Liberties House.
(And don’t forget, you’ve got your own gym right at home, all included in your monthly price.)

Culture, Creativity and Community
The Liberties has always been a hub for makers, artists, and independent thinkers and that energy is still very much alive today!
Check out exhibitions and events at Dublin’s oldest library, Marsh’s Library, or explore the campus of the National College of Art & Design.
It’s the kind of place where there’s always something happening; you just have to step outside.

Local Gems and Everyday Essentials
The Liberties blends deep-rooted Dublin heritage with a lively, everyday buzz. At its heart is the iconic Liberty Market on Meath Street, one of the city’s longest-running markets, where everything from clothing and fabrics to homeware and electronics can be found under one roof.
Surrounded by traditional bakeries, local grocers, and independent shops, the area offers a shopping experience that’s as authentic as it is diverse.
